Settle in to Edinburgh
Edinburgh Local, the University's community outreach department, provides local news, events, and information on community services that can help you settle in to the University and the city.
Building access
Once you receive your University ID card, you can arrange 24-hour swipe access by contacting the School Estates and Facilities Manager. This will allow you to access the School before 08:30 and after 17:00 Mon-Fri, and all day Sat/Sun.
Business cards
Once your staff account has been set up, you can order Business Cards through the form hosted on the staff Intranet.
Cycle storage
Secure bicycle storage is provided at a number of sites around the central campus.
Disabled access
The Business School building at 29 Buccleuch Place is fully accessible with lift access to all floors and accessible toilets on every floor.
Exchange café
This is located on the lower ground floor of the Business School and is open Mon-Fri.
The café takes payment in cash, credit card, and through your staff ID card, which can be topped up using the Upay Cashless Catering service.
Fire alarm
Testing takes place once a week in all buildings used by the Business School. In 29 Buccleuch Place, this is at 08:55 every Tuesday, and will last no longer than 30 seconds. If it sounds for longer, or at any other time, evacuate the building.
First aid
If you require a first aider the main reception desk on the lower ground floor can contact one for you.

IT queries
The Business School's IT Team are well placed to deal with IT queries. They can be contacted at ishelp@business-school.ed.ac.uk and have extensive guidance on SharePoint and a Wiki. The University also offers guides to help new staff with the most commonly used applications.
Parking
You can apply for an annual staff parking permit or a pay-as-you-go permit if you do not need to use your car daily.
Post room
The Business School's post room is located on the 4th floor of the main building, near to the staff room. You can gain access by swiping your University ID card.
Printers
Networked multi-functional devices (MFDs) are situated on all floors of the Business School and across the University campus. You will need to use your University ID card each time you print.
Showers
Two individual showers are located on the 2nd floor of the Business School.
Staff profile
Once your staff account has been set up, you can edit your staff profile through the Business School Intranet.
You may also arrange to have a professional headshot taken by the School's Photographer and added to your profile.
Staff room
The staff room is on the 4th floor of the Business School's main building. You can access it by swiping your University ID card. It has two fridges, a coffee machine, microwaves and on-demand chilled and boiling water. Tea, coffee, milk and sugar are provided. Additional kitchen and tea points are available.
Vending machines
These are located in the student social area on the Lower Ground Floor, and provide hot/cold drinks and snacks.
